4-(4-Fluorophenyl)-2-cyclopropylquinoline-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester (CPCQ) is a hmg coa reductase inhibitor that is used in the evaluation of enzyme inhibition. CPCQ has been shown to inhibit hmg coa reductase and other enzymes, such as phosphatidylcholine acyltransferase, with IC50 values in the low micromolar range. This drug has shown no significant toxic effects on cells or animals at doses up to 200 mg/kg. The photophysical properties of this compound are fluorescence and active methylene emission, which is exhibited by its quinolinecarboxylic acid moiety.
