Formyl meldrum's acid is a strigolactone that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. Formyl meldrum's acid inhibits the production of formyl-L-methionine, which is a substrate for the synthesis of carlactones. The analogues to formyl meldrum's acid are also known as strigolactones and have been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory properties.
