(E)-4-Formylcinnamic acid methyl ester is an amide that can be used as a toolbox molecule. It is activated by the cavity and has been shown to interact with methoxy groups, which are found in chromenone. This interaction may be due to steric interactions between the two molecules. (E)-4-Formylcinnamic acid methyl ester has been shown to inhibit histone deacetylase (HDAC) and was used for molecular modelling of HDAC inhibition.
