N-Formylindoline is an organic compound that reacts with formamide in the presence of a strong acid to produce N-formylglycine. It can be used as a formylating agent, which is a chemical compound that contains the formyl group (HC=O). This reaction occurs at room temperature and does not require an acid catalyst, unlike other reactions that form amides. Formylation is a reaction in which the formyl group replaces one or more hydrogen atoms on carbon atoms of an organic molecule. N-Formylindoline has been shown to react with tripeptides and carbon tetrachloride to produce endoplasmic reticulum peptides. The reaction system for this process includes mammalian cells and plates (96 well) for assays.
