It has also been used as an additive in horticultural crops to increase yield and in hydrophyllaceae species for its ornamental value. 2H-Furo[2,3-c]pyran-2-one has been studied extensively as a potential treatment against cancer cells. However, it was found to be ineffective when tested on human tumor cell lines.
