- (2S)-2-{[(9H-fluoren-9-ylmethoxy)carbonyl]amino}-5-oxo-5-(prop-2-en-1-yloxy)pentanoic acid (non-preferred name)
Fmoc-Glu(OAII)-OH is a fatty acid that has been shown to have tumor vasculature-targeting and anti-cancer properties. It is a cyclic peptide with an amino acid sequence that mimics the natural lipid, lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LPE). This peptide can form covalent adducts with cell membranes and inhibit their proliferation. Fmoc-Glu(OAII)-OH inhibits tumor growth by blocking the uptake of glucose into cancer cells, which prevents the synthesis of glycolytic enzymes and reductant. This agent also blocks the production of nitric oxide, which is necessary for tumor growth. The disulfide bond in this molecule may be cleaved by reducing agents, such as glutathione or cysteine, to release LPE.
