3-Fluorophthalic anhydride is an aromatic compound that undergoes a nucleophilic substitution reaction. This product has been shown to react with hydrogen fluoride and form a carbon nanotube, which is a new type of material with applications in electronics and biotechnology. 3-Fluorophthalic anhydride also reacts with phenoxy to form a reactive intermediate that can be used as a bioactive substance. It can be used for the synthesis of phase-separated polymers by reacting it with diisopropylidene diacrylate or methylenebisacrylamide. The properties of the polymer depend on the reaction conditions and the combination of monomers. 3-Fluorophthalic anhydride has been shown to have activity against endogenously produced proteins such as e3 ubiquitin, which regulates protein degradation in cells. It has also been shown to inhibit dinucleotide phosphate (DNP) reductase
