2-Fluorobenzyl bromide is an organic compound that is used in the synthesis of the anti-platelet drug prasugrel. It has shown antibacterial activity against a variety of bacteria including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. 2-Fluorobenzyl bromide binds to the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase and inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis by interfering with the formation of 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate. This compound also forms chelate ligands through interactions with chloride ions.
