2-Fluoro-4-methylpyridine (2FM) is a polydimethylsiloxane that can be stabilized with mesylate. It has been immobilized on the surface of glass or silicon dioxide particles and used as a solid phase for the separation of hydrocarbons. In addition, 2FM can be immobilized by crosslinking to silica gel particles. When 2FM was combined with chlorobenzene, anthrone and nucleus, it became able to bind to proteins in water. This compound has also been shown to have an effect on cognition in rats and is used in magnetic resonance imaging studies. The activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) by 2FM may be due to the nitro group which inhibits the MAPK pathway by reacting with nitric oxide.
