Description:
3-(2-Furfurylthio)propanone is an organic compound that belongs to the group of formylating agents. It is a colourless liquid with a strong smell, which is soluble in water and ether. 3-(2-Furfurylthio)propanone reacts with nitroethane to form 2-furancarboxylic acid, which is a precursor for the synthesis of various drugs. This agent has been shown to induce infarction in rat hearts and increase cell membrane permeability. It also causes cancer and Alzheimer's disease by forming acetyl derivatives. 3-(2-Furfurylthio)propanone has been used as an additive in foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and other products.
