Product Information

Name:
Furfural dimethyl hydrazone
Synonyms:
  • 2-Furaldehyde 2,2-dimethylhydrazone
  • (2E)-2-(furan-2-ylmethylidene)-1,1-dimethylhydrazine
Description:

Furfural dimethyl hydrazone (FDHM) is a mass spectrometric detection agent that has been used in the analysis of organic compounds. FDHM is typically used as a calibration standard for hydrogen-bonded and dihedral molecules. It has been used to study galactose, which is an unsymmetrical molecule with nitrogen atoms and chemical ionization. Sample preparation is required before FDHM can be used, which usually includes the use of acetaldehyde or argon gas. High concentrations are needed for this reagent to be effective.
