Product Information

Name:
2-Fluoromandelic acid
Synonyms:
  • (2-Fluorophenyl)(hydroxy)acetic acid
  • Benzeneacetic acid, 2-fluoro-alpha-hydroxy-
Description:

2-Fluoromandelic acid is a bacteriostatic organic acid that is used in the treatment of infectious diseases. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of malignant cells, as well as to inhibit the growth of recombinant e. coli and recombinant human cells. 2-Fluoromandelic acid has also been found to inhibit the activity of some enzymes, such as fluoroacetylcholine esterase, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of fluoroacetylcholine into choline and acetic acid. This enzyme is present in many different types of bacteria, including Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae. 2-Fluoromandelic acid may be useful for treating infectious diseases caused by these bacteria.
