Fmoc-Arg(Mtr)-OH is an amide that is used as a cell-growth promoter. It binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor and enhances the production of proteins that promote cell growth. Fmoc-Arg(Mtr)-OH has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of myeloma cells in culture, with a half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 10 μM. This agent also inhibits the production of antimicrobial peptides such as cilengitide, which are involved in cell signaling pathways and have potential use in cancer treatment, by inhibiting the expression of epidermal growth factor.
