3-FLuorobenzyL aLcohoL is a reactive hydroxy methyl radical. It reacts with the hydroxyl group of 3-FLuorobenzyL aLcohoL to form a covalent bond and has been shown to have anticancer activity. This compound also scavenges free radicals, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are produced by normal cellular metabolism and can damage DNA. 3-FLuorobenzyL aLcohoL is not mutagenic in bacteria and has been shown to inhibit population growth in yeast cells.
