Fmoc-gly-OPfp is a cationic surfactant that binds to the receptor α, which is an intracellular protein that regulates the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). When Fmoc-gly-OPfp binds to the receptor α, it inhibits MMP activity and prevents degradation of collagen. This binding leads to increased collagen deposition and increased activation of fibrosarcoma cells. Fmoc-gly-OPfp is also able to bind to histones H3 and form stable conjugates with them. This inhibition of histone H3 prevents transcriptional activation, leading to decreased cell proliferation in vitro.
