Fmoc-gln(Trt)-OPfp is a fluorescent amino acid analogue that can be used to detect and identify the presence of asparagine residues in peptides. It is synthesized manually and chemically using triphenylmethyl (trityl) ester chemistry and purified by cellulose column chromatography. The compound can be applied to microchips for analysis, or used to create microarrays for protein function assays. Fmoc-gln(Trt)-OPfp has been shown to react with antibodies specific for asparagine, making it useful in immunoassays. The compound also has potential use as a fluorescent tag in peptide synthesis, because it can be cleaved from the peptide at the carboxamide group.
