Fmoc-D-Arg(Mtr)-OH is a depsipeptide that belongs to the group of katanosins. It was synthesized by solid phase synthesis and reacted with piperidine in dichloromethane, followed by cleavage from the resin. Fmoc-D-Arg(Mtr)-OH has been shown to have antibiotic activity against Gram-positive organisms and has been used to produce analogues. The antibiotic properties of this compound may be due to its ability to inhibit bacterial growth through the inhibition of protein synthesis, which is vital for cell division.
