Fmoc-D-Arg(Pmc)-OH is a homologue of D-Arg. It is not chiral and it has been used in techniques such as proton nmr to study the protonation state of the molecule. This research has shown that the postulated protonation states are correct and that Fmoc-D-Arg(Pmc)-OH can coordinate with other molecules, such as metal ions, under certain conditions. The solvating ability of Fmoc-D-Arg(Pmc)-OH can be studied by looking at its effects on the frequencies of the signals in proton nmr spectra. This information can be used to diagnose diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease.
