Fluoroglycofen-ethyl is a phenyl ether herbicide that inhibits the growth of plants and is used to control weeds. It is the active ingredient in the commercial product Celastrus®. Fluoroglycofen-ethyl has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth, with a synergic effect when combined with salt or other pesticides. It has also been shown to be effective at controlling weeds in fruit tree orchards. The biochemical properties of fluoroglycofen-ethyl have been investigated using analytical methods such as chromatographic, spectroscopic, and chemical analyses. These studies showed that it binds to cellular proteins by acylation reaction, inhibiting bacterial cell division and causing membrane damage.
