Product Information
6-Fluoro-4-hydroxyquinoline-3-carboxylic acid (6FHQ) is a chemical compound that has been shown to exhibit antibacterial activity. 6FHQ inhibits the growth of gram-negative bacteria by binding to the quinone part of the bacterial cytochrome bc1 complex and blocking electron transfer. It also inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis and protein synthesis, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of methionine as well as other amino acids. 6FHQ has been shown to have a lower environmental impact than many other chemicals with similar antibacterial properties because it does not break down in the environment. 6FHQ can be used in screening tests for identifying compounds that are active against gram-negative organisms, such as E. coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
