2-Fluoro-1-methylpyridinium 4-toluenesulfonate is a cross-linking agent that contains two nitrogen atoms. This compound is used to immobilize biomolecules on surfaces with a matrix effect and to prepare samples for analysis by chemical ionization mass spectrometry. 2-Fluoro-1-methylpyridinium 4-toluenesulfonate can be used as an affinity ligand in the preparation of serine protease samples. The hydroxyl group of this compound reacts with the amino acid serine, which is present in many proteins, causing it to react with activated nucleophiles.
