Fmoc-3-(1-naphthyl)-D-alanine is a selective inhibitor of the class I human geranylgeranyltransferase. It binds to the imidazole ring and prevents the enzyme from binding to its protein substrate, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. Fmoc-3-(1-naphthyl)-D-alanine has shown activity against Candida albicans and C.albicans, but not against other fungi or bacteria. This inhibitor is synthesized on a solid phase and can be screened for activity using candida cells grown in liquid culture.
