4-Fluoro-D-phenylalanine is an analgesic that belongs to the group of phenylalanines. It is a fluorinated form of L-phenylalanine and has been shown to have antinociceptive effects in mice. 4-Fluoro-D-phenylalanine induces analgesia by acting as an agonist at the μ opioid receptor, which leads to increased levels of endorphins and enkephalins in the brain. This compound also binds to chloride channels, but it is not known how this binding affects its mechanism of action. 4-Fluoro-D-phenylalanine has a molecular weight of 190.2 g/mol and a logP octanol/water of 1.9, which means that it may be able to cross the blood brain barrier and enter the central nervous system.
