Fmoc-O-trityl-L-serine is a synthetic molecule that is not naturally occurring. It has been shown to have inhibitory effects on the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, but does not affect healthy cells. Fmoc-O-trityl-L-serine binds to the membrane of cancer cells and inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes. This drug also inhibits cell growth by interfering with the membrane interactions necessary for cellular metabolism. Fmoc-O-trityl-L-serine is toxic to red blood cells, which may be due to its ability to induce hemolysis.
