Fmoc-L-thiaproline is a synthetic amino acid that is used in the synthesis of peptide analogs. It is an analog of L-thiaproline, which can be found in nature. Fmoc-L-thiaproline has been shown to have anticancer activity in animals and to be an efficient method for synthesizing ferrocene. This compound has a quaternary ammonium salt structure with three substituents at the 4-, 5-, and 6-positions, which are oriented towards the nitrogen atom. These substituents are usually trisubstituted with electron-withdrawing groups such as nitro or chloro. The nucleophilic center (the nitrogen) is electrophilic, making it an excellent leaving group in substitution reactions.
