Fmoc-D-aspartic acid alpha-tert-butyl ester is a modified amino acid that can be used as an analytical marker for the determination of dehydration and age-related macular degeneration. This chemical is synthesized by the reaction of Fmoc-D-aspartic acid with tert-butyldimethylsilylchloride (TBSCl) and a base. The resulting product undergoes purification, yielding a white solid. Fmoc-D-aspartic acid alpha-tert-butyl ester is not naturally occurring and has been shown to be useful in the analysis of bone tissue for age related macular degeneration.
