Description

Formyl-L-alanine is an amide that is formed by the condensation of formaldehyde with an amino acid. It has a cycloaliphatic structure, and its formyl group makes it reactive with metal ions. Formyl-L-alanine reacts with hydrogen chloride to produce formic acid and ammonium chloride. Formyl-L-alanine is used in the synthesis of polymers for use as coatings on contact lenses, films for packaging, and water vapor barriers. Formyl-L-alanine is also used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, such as antihistamines and antibiotics.
