Fmoc-D-citrulline is a heterocycle that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis in cancer cells. Fmoc-D-citrulline also acts as an adjuvant for vaccines against infectious diseases, such as hepatitis B, herpes zoster, and influenza. The mechanism of Fmoc-D-citrulline's anti-inflammatory activity may be due to its ability to inhibit HDACs and its ability to nitrosylate c1-c4 alkyl groups on proteins. Fmoc-D-citrulline was also shown to inhibit the proliferation of pluripotent cells by binding to the cell membrane receptor CD47.
