3-Fluoro-DL-phenylalanine is a fatty acid that is synthesized by the enzyme phenylalanine ammonia lyase. 3-Fluoro-DL-phenylalanine has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent against resistant mutants of corynebacterium glutamicum, which are resistant to other agents. 3-Fluoro-DL-phenylalanine binds to calcium and inhibits the activity of enzymes such as tyrosine synthetase, corynebacterium glutamicum, hydrogen fluoride, and the enzyme regulatory protein. This molecule also has a regulatory effect on gene expression in model systems.
