Fmoc-beta-alaninol is a non-polar solvent that has been shown to stabilize non-polar molecules in polar solvents. It has also been found to reorient the molecular dipole in a way that favors hydrogen bonding with an acceptor molecule, which leads to a transition in fluorescence. The bathochromic shift of this molecule is due to the presence of an azobenzene group. This group is responsible for the formation of hydrogen bonds between Fmoc-beta-alaninol and other molecules, which affects its absorption and emission spectra.
