Product Information
- tert-Butyl 2-fluoro-5-nitrobenzoate
2-Fluoro-5-nitro-benzoic acid tert-butyl ester is a synthetic compound that was identified as an antimalarial agent. It has been shown to be active against the parasite Plasmodium falciparum, and has been studied in vivo. 2-Fluoro-5-nitro-benzoic acid tert-butyl ester is a macrocyclic molecule with a piperazine ring fused to a phenyl ring. Synthesis of this compound requires two chemical steps: the first step involves the condensation of 4,4'-biphenol with ethyl chloroacetate to give 4-(2'-chloroethoxy)phenyl acetate; the second step involves reacting this product with nitroethane, followed by reduction of the nitro group. Optimization studies on this molecule have aimed at improving its potency as an antimalarial agent.
