3-(4-Fluorophenoxy)propanenitrile is a synthetic, reductase inhibitor. It combines the activity of reducing agents and acrylonitrile. It is a remedy for diabetes, as it inhibits the synthesis of glucose in liver cells. 3-(4-Fluorophenoxy)propanenitrile inhibits the enzyme reductase, which prevents the conversion of triethylamine to ethanal and reduces the concentration of sorbinil. Sorbinil has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on benzene-induced diabetic rats.
