2-Furoylacetonitrile is an alkylating agent that is potent against fungi. It inhibits the activity of adenosine A1 receptor and has been shown to be effective in vitro against Curvularia lunata, a fungus that causes leaf spot on plants. 2-Furoylacetonitrile has also been shown to have antimalarial activity in vivo against Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium berghei. This compound may be useful for the treatment of fungal infections and malaria due to its ability to cause bond cleavage by nucleophilic attack.
