5-Fluoro-1H-indole-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester is a 5-HT4 receptor antagonist that blocks the serotonin receptor. It has been shown to inhibit gastrointestinal motility and may be used to treat disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome. This drug also has cognition enhancing effects, which are mediated by the activation of 5HT4 receptors in the cerebral cortex. 5Fluoro-1H-indole-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester can be synthesized from 5fluoroindole and methyl bromide.
