Description

4-Fluoro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid is a sulfone that acts as an inhibitor of the transcriptase enzyme. The drug has been shown to be effective against HIV and other viruses. 4-Fluoro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid inhibits the production of viral RNA by preventing the binding of RNA polymerase to DNA templates in the cell nucleus. It has been shown to have interactions with drugs that are currently used to treat HIV and AIDS, such as zidovudine, didanosine, lamivudine, and stavudine. 4-Fluoro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid may be effective against drug resistant mutants or mutations that have developed in HIV and AIDS patients.
