Fluoromethyl phenyl sulfone (FPS) is an inhibitor that blocks the activity of protein kinase JAK1. FPS has been shown to be effective in vitro against a number of fungi, including Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus. It has also been shown to inhibit the growth of inflammatory cells such as neutrophils, macrophages, and T cells. FPS inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting the activation of NF-κB. This inhibition leads to an inhibition of inflammation in autoimmune diseases and inflammatory diseases. Fluoromethyl phenyl sulfone also has stereoselective effects, which means it binds only to one enantiomer. The drug binds preferentially to L-amino acids over D-amino acids due to its chiral center at carbon atom 3.
