2-Fluorobenzyl cyanide is a synthetic compound that belongs to the group of intermetallic compounds. It is a precursor in the synthesis of 2,6-dichloroquinoline (2,6-DCQ) and spiroindolines. The synthetic process involves the hydrocyanation of 2-cyanoacetamide with hydrogen cyanide in an organic solvent such as acetonitrile to produce benzyl cyanide. The product is then reduced with zinc metal in aqueous ammonia to yield 2-fluorobenzyl cyanide. This compound has been used in the synthesis of prasugrel, which is an antiplatelet drug used for reducing blood clotting. The Raman spectra of this compound show a peak at 1328 cm−1, which corresponds to its molecular symmetry.
