2-Fluoro-3-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile is a potent inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), including MMP-1 and MMP-13. It also inhibits the activity of other enzymes, such as cathepsins. In vivo studies have shown that 2-fluoro-3-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile can inhibit the growth of cancer cells by targeting enzymes that are involved in cell proliferation. This compound also has potent antiangiogenic effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
