2-Fluoro-4-methylaniline (2FM) is a potent inhibitor of ethylene biosynthesis. The inhibition activity of 2FM was tested using biochemical, high performance liquid chromatography, and nmr spectra. 2FM inhibits the enzyme activity of acetyl-CoA carboxylase in the presence of ATP, which is the first step in the biosynthesis of ethylene. 2FM also inhibits other enzymes involved in this pathway, including ACC synthase and ACC oxidase. 2FM has been shown to inhibit endogenous metabolism by glycosidic hydrolases and nonselective alkylation reactions.
