Fmoc-D-Pro-OPfp is a peroxidase mimic that inhibits the formation of radicals. It can be used to study the activity of peroxidases, which are enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of organic compounds. The Fmoc group is a residue in the molecule and can be modified with an electron-deficient phenoxy group, which allows it to react with hydrogen peroxide. This reaction produces a radical species that is stabilized by electron withdrawing groups on the phenoxy ring. The radical species then reacts with various substrates such as estrogen and calmodulin, causing cell function changes. Fmoc-D-Pro-OPfp has been shown to inhibit estrogen receptor α (ERα) activity in breast cancer cells, suggesting its potential use as an anti-estrogen agent for treatment of ERα positive breast cancer.
Fmoc-D-Pro-OPfp has also been shown to have chemical stability under a range of conditions including pH
