Product Information
Formyl resin is an adsorbent material that consists of a polymerized epoxy resin with glutaric and histidine ligands. Formyl resin can be used to remove endotoxin from solutions by binding to the hydrophobic regions on the surface of bacteria and other microorganisms. The formyl group on the ligands reacts with the enzyme histidine, which is present in all living cells, to form formaldehyde. Formaldehyde then binds to the endotoxin, forming a complex that is removed by filtration or adsorption onto the resin. The formaldehyde also reacts with water to produce formic acid, which helps to denature proteins.
Formyl resin can be prepared using either anhydrous or hydrated methods. In the anhydrous method, ethylene diamine and dialdehyde are mixed together in a ratio of 1:1 (molar) and heated at 250-300°C for 10-20 hours until all of the water has been driven
