6-Fluoropyridine-2-carbaldehyde (6FPCA) is an aldoxime that can be used to synthesize other organometallic compounds. 6FPCA is synthesized from the reaction of acetone with 2,6-difluoropyridine in the presence of sodium methoxide. This reactant has been shown to have sarin and alkylation properties, and can be used to study ligand binding. 6FPCA also has been shown to inhibit the enzyme acetylcholinesterase in a mechanistic study using cross-coupling reactions. This compound may have potential use as a pharmaceutical agent for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease or Parkinson's disease due to its ability to act as a chiral ligand.
