Description:
Fmoc-(Fmochmb)Gly-OH is an antimicrobial peptide with a disulphide bond. It has been synthesised and shown to have antibacterial activity against oral pathogens. The compound has potential use as an antimicrobial agent, which could be used to target bacterial strains that are resistant to current antibiotics. This compound has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in vitro by binding to the cytoplasmic membrane of bacteria and inhibiting the formation of the proton motive force, which is needed for bacterial growth. Fmoc-(Fmochmb)Gly-OH also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species in human neutrophils, which may be involved in its antibacterial activity.
