4-Fluoroantipyrine is a fluoroborate that has been used as a radiopharmaceutical for diagnostic imaging of cerebral blood flow. It is synthesized by reacting antipyrine with fluorine gas. 4-Fluoroantipyrine is an analog of the drug antipyrine, which is also used to measure blood flow in the brain. 4-Fluoroantipyrine can be detected on X-ray film after it has been irradiated with gamma rays. The use of this compound as a radiopharmaceutical allows for the measurement of cerebral blood flow in humans and animals at different temperatures. 4-Fluoroantipyrine has also been used as a filtration agent and gel chromatography reagent.
