Description

5-Fluoropolyoxin L is a streptococcal enzyme inhibitor that binds to the active site of chitin synthetase. 5-Fluoropolyoxin L inhibits the biosynthesis of chitin and uronic acids in Streptococcus faecalis, preventing bacterial growth. This compound has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of DNA, RNA, protein, and amino acids. It also inhibits the synthesis of thymidylate by binding to the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, blocking DNA synthesis and transcription. 5-Fluoropolyoxin L is a chromophore with an inhibition constant (Ki) value of 0.2 µM for Streptococcus faecalis and an Ki value of 0.4 µM for Chlamydia trachomatis
