Product Information
- 2-Butanone, 3-Fluoro-
3-Fluoro-2-Butanone is a colorless, volatile liquid that has a distinctive odor and is soluble in water. 3-Fluoro-2-Butanone can be produced by the hydrogenation of 2-fluoroethanol. It is an important precursor for many fluorine compounds, including hydrogen fluoride (HF) and protonated fluoroalkanes. The three conformers of 3-fluorobutane are analysed using NMR spectroscopy to determine the difference between their energy levels. The two conformers with the cyclohexane ring in a gauche conformation have higher energy than the one with the cyclohexane ring in a trans conformation, as gauche is more stable than trans. This conformational preference could be due to steric hindrance or electronic effects.
3-Fluoro-2-Butanone can also be used as an organic nutrient for yeast growth, and it increases uptake of glucose
