5-Fluoro-1-tetralone is a potent antibacterial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of protein, DNA, and RNA. It has been shown to be active against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Streptococcus pneumoniae. 5-Fluoro-1-tetralone is also active against fungi. This antibiotic has been shown to bind to the imidazole ring of the bacterial enzyme as well as to both triazoles and oximes. 5-Fluoro-1-tetralone binds to the imidazole ring, making it an effective inhibitor of bacterial protein synthesis.
