Description

2-Fluoro-9-fluorenone is a synthetic quinone with a chemical structure similar to that of fluorene. It is a colorimetric reagent that can be used in analytical methods for detecting sulfides, cellulose acetate, and pesticide residues. 2-Fluoro-9-fluorenone has been shown to cause tumors in experimental animals, but not mice or rats. The 2-Fluoro-9-fluorenone emissions are detectable by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and show peaks at m/z 92 and 116.
2-Fluoro-9-fluorenone has also been reported as an emission from the combustion of certain fluorine containing materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene and other fluorinated plastics.
