Fluoro-Dimethoxyborane is a selective inhibitor of the sodium channel. It is used in the study of photoreceptors and monoamine oxidase activity. Fluoro-Dimethoxyborane also inhibits hydrogen peroxide production by organolithium compounds. It is used for the synthesis of organometallic reagents. This compound has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) production, as well as other oxidases such as alcohol, borane and chloroform oxidases. Fluoro-Dimethoxyborane is prepared by reacting sodium hydroxide with methyl borate and boron trifluoride etherate in a preparative method. The product can then be purified by electrophoresis.
