Product Information
- Benzo[A]Pyrene, 6-Fluoro-
6-Fluorobenzo(a)Pyrene (6FBP) is a carcinogen that can be found in the environment. It is a reactive compound that forms epoxides and has tumorigenic properties. 6FBP has been shown to induce tumor growth in hamster v79 cells and cd-1 mice, as well as epidermal tumors in rats. The number of skin papillomas increased significantly when 6FBP was applied to the skin of Sprague-Dawley rats. This chemical has also been shown to inhibit rat liver microsomes, which may be due to its ability to activate them. The metabolic profiles of 6FBP have been studied using rat liver microsomes, showing that it can be activated by the addition of NADPH or cytochrome P450 enzymes.
